Sweenor Builders has won an award in the 2017 Best in American Living™ Awards (BALA) by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in the Specialty Room category. The firm was distinguished for its work on The Bunk Room, a key feature in the THIS OLD HOUSE® 2017 Idea House that was unveiled nationally last month. Award levels, including platinum, gold, silver and Home of the Year, will be announced at the NAHB International Builders’ Show on January 10, 2018.
“We’re honored to be recognized for our work on this one-of-a-kind home,” says Jeff Sweenor, President & CEO. “It is a wonderful reflection of the collaboration among our entire team, including valued partners at THIS OLD HOUSE®, Union Studio Architecture & Community Design, and Denise Enright Interior Design.”
The Bunk Room celebrates one of the most important features for any beach house — having plenty of space to comfortably host family and friends! Reflecting the home’s proximity to the water, the room evokes a stylish nautical theme, complete with custom beds reminiscent of the berths on a boat. Built-in shelves add charm and create privacy between bunks, provide charging stations, and offer guests places to store personal items. Or stay tuned on January 25th, 2018 when the Emmy® award-winning PBS television series THIS OLD HOUSE® debuts the Bunk Room episode, as part of its 38th season.
Now in its 34rd year, BALA recognizes outstanding achievement by builders and design professionals in all sectors of the residential housing industry including single-family production, custom, multifamily, affordable, remodeling, community and interiors. BALA is built on the principle that all great homes start with great design, no matter cost or size.
Built for THIS OLD HOUSE®, the 2017 Idea House and its Bunk Room deliver a range of features that top homeowners’ wish lists today. Buying a home is often the most significant purchase people will make in their lifetime, and BALA winners spotlight what building industry professionals need to know to set their project apart and hit the right mark with today’s highly educated and discerning home buyers.
Award winners will be formally announced during the annual NAHB International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Florida.
